shots and pizza
so this morning i was up for my first official day of orientation. i moved into the dorm yesterday, with lots of help from nate and uncle larry. i got a shot yesterday for meningitis (yay!). it wasn't as traumatic as some of my past experiences but it was still pretty bad. as i laid on the couch, carefully avoiding eye contact with anything that resembled medical equipment, uncle larry held my hand and nate (who is also scared of shots) stood above me looking into my eyes and trying to keep me calm. thank you both so much, especially you nate for not passing out and for getting me through it (and for opening my lollypop up at the end when my hands were too shaky to do so). later yesterday afternoon i had to part with nate and come to the realization that he wasn't going to be there with me and i had to get to know new people (scary!!). so after a bit more unpacking of my many boxes and suitcases, i headed off to dinner with my roommate and her parents. then i saw my gift from God sitting only two seats away from me...an old friend from CIU!! becca just transferred up and is commuting from home in Lancaster county. God is so amazing. becca was one of the people i met during orientation at CIU about a year ago and we clicked right away but then drifted apart over the semester. i always looked back and wished that i had hung out with her more and gotten to know her better. and now i have that opportunity. last night we played corny freshman get to know you games that are completely geared toward 18 year old fresh out of high school freshman and most of us who are over 18 and especially those who have already been to one freshman orientation find no enjoyment in such torturous games as the "let's see how long your team can hold the hula hoop above your heads on your fingertips" game or the "line up on the bleachers and arrange yourselves from shortest to tallest without talking" game. anyway, i sat and watched and laughed and got to know another friend, alecia. this morning i met suzy through alecia and we're about to all go have lunch together along with my roommate, regina. the best thing about orientation so far is the 2 slices of PaPa John's pizza that i had for breakfast!!! that is by far my favorite pizza in the world and i haven't had it since last december. i accidentally missed breakfast this morning and after our first session (at 10:25 am) there were a couple of boxes of free pizza. it was amazing.
